The Nevada / Blackfoot valley Closer to the Ranch, indeed including the greater part of its area, is the Nevada Creek Valley, Helmville being its only town. Nevada Creek joins the Blackfoot River about two and one half miles northwest of the Ranch headquarters (that confluence lies roughly a mile outside Ranch land, where its two sections are separated by 1 to 2 miles of land belonging to the Bignell and Coughlin ranches). Since the Blackfoot is the one major river below that point, the area downstream - including the northern or Wales section of the Ranch through which it flows - is technically part of the Blackfoot Valley. But since the two streams meander where they join along the flats created by their joint deposits with no conspicuous divide between their respective drainage basins, the whole area amounts to one continuous valley bottom. For practical purposes and convenience, the Wales Ranch area is nonetheless considered as part of the Nevada Valley and is thus la- beled on some maps. Ovando, though, is a good two miles north of not 110
