Helmville and Vicinity “Helmville Rodeo” courtesy © Carol Lynne Fowler 2013 Helmville lies less than a mile to the west of Nevada Creek, near the point where it begins its wide meanderings that its own deposits, during oc- casional flooding, have created along with those of the Blackfoot River. This is roughly a 25-square-mile area where the streams and their several sloughs meander aimlessly across flats until the two main streams finally join. The land of the Ranch headquarters area nearly impinges on lower Nevada Creek where it flows less than two miles north of the headquarters complex of build- ings, but just outside the Ranch property. The Ranch property does, however, include some of its level bottomland. (These bottomlands don’t have a formal name shown on the maps; their extent has to be inferred from the maps by noting the telltale stream meanders, easily discerned on a detailed map, or better, by observing the area from a good vantage point such as State High- 117
