“From the first conversation I had with Bob Meyer , I knew this project was to be special. Bob was inquisitive, thoughtful, creative, and decisive. If these characteristics would continue throughout the design process, we could create something very special. They were and we did! The process started with a design created on Bob’s desk in California. His challenge to the de- sign team was to take the basic premise for the design and see if there was a creative way to impliment it. The design needed to incorporate principles of daylighting, exterior views for the enjoyment of the employees, and exterior privacy for those inside. The design strategy was fundamental. Take simple forms and influence them to create visual interest. We started by taking the plan and skewing it in both north/south and east/west direc- tions. This created opportunities for interest both inside and out. The use of monoliths and exterior steel detailing created variety along the facade and unique visual perspectives from within. The forms would be rectilinear in shape, simple in detail, and quality in material. These principles would be consistent on the exterior and interior of the building. The completed buildings embody the simple, elegant, and functional ideals of the first design. The layering of forms create a unique experience for those passing by and for the employees inside. The quality of exterior stone and detailing suggests permanence, stability, and care. The quality of the interior finishes allows for the employees to be secure and productive. Creating something special isn’t a single event. It’s a process of exploration, creativity, and execution. The Meyer project team excelled at these. The result was a project that exceeded all of our expectations. It was a joy to be a part of.” Randell Johnson Architect
