Looking Forward In 2010 , despite the challenging domestic and international economic environments, we continued to enjoy substantial growth in sales and new market opportunities. Meyer Natural Foods acquired Dakota Beef, one of the largest and oldest certified organic beef brands in North America. As part of the transaction, we secured a long-term supply of organic Angus calves born on Dakota Beef’s historic 150,000 acre, open-range, organic ranch in Oregon. With this acquisition, Meyer Natural Foods became the largest supplier of premium organic meat in the United States. In 2011 , Meyer Natural Foods completed an equity investment in Premium Natural Beef (PNB). Founded by C.R. Freeman and brothers Kirk and Todd Duff, all life-long friends and Oklahoma ranchers, PNB produces and sells locally sourced natural angus beef products to grocers and restaurants in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and Kansas. Like All Meyer Natural Foods’ products, PNB cattle are age and source verified, never receive antibiotics or added growth hormones and are fed an all-vegetarian diet. PNB cattle are sourced from over 350 family ranchers, many of whom use genetics supplied by “Duff Cattle Company - Power Plus Genetics”, an affiliate of PNB that produces internationally acclaimed angus genetics. Immediately following the PNB investment, Meyer Natural Foods established “Local Harvest LLC” to build additional locally sourced and processed premium beef programs in various markets through out the U.S. Local Harvest will initially focus its efforts in the Northeast and Mid- Atlantic states, a region that represents approximately 25% of our country’s population. Today we buy cattle from over 1,800 family ranchers and feeders in 30 states. We employ more than 130 people who direct the creation and service of our products sold through more than 10,000 retail and food service outlets in 50 states and many countries throughout the world. We do this with respect for our environment, our natural resources, and all living things with which we share the world. We are very thankful for our accomplishments during the past 20 years. The credit for our past achievements and any future successes belongs to our exceptional and dedicated employees and to the support they receive from their families. The ranch and our heritage continue to be focal points for our shared vision of standards and what can be possible as we pursue the American dream in this wonderful land of opportunity.
